Isotonic NaCl (0.9 %) is one of the most widely used sterile solutions in biological and medical research. Its osmolarity (308 mOsm/L) corresponds to human blood plasma, minimizing osmotic stress on cells and tissue. In cell culture studies NaCl 0.9 % is used as a physiological control solution that exerts no confounding effects on cellular processes. For peptide reconstitution NaCl offers full compatibility with cellular systems but is less suitable for multi-dose use than BAC water (no bacteriostatic effect).
