TB-500 is a synthetic fragment of the ubiquitous protein Thymosin Beta-4 (Tβ4) and is one of the most promising peptides in regeneration research. In animal models — particularly rat and mouse studies — TB-500 showed accelerated healing of muscle, tendon and cardiac muscle injuries. In heart attack models in rats it stimulated cardiomyocyte migration and promoted new blood vessel formation in ischemic heart tissue, leading to measurable improvement in cardiac function. In tendon injury models it nearly doubled the tensile strength of healing tissue vs. controls. The mechanism lies in the interaction with G-actin: TB-500 regulates actin polymerization and thereby promotes cell migration essential for tissue repair.
